The Man in the Mirror

'I'm starting with the man in the mirror. I'm asking him to change his ways. No message could have been any clearer, if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change." Michael Jackson

I, too, have decided to start with the woman in the mirror....in fact, I start with her every morning and I ask myself, "who can I help today so that God gets the glory and I live my purpose?" I think that we rush through life and forget to take the time to examine ourselves and ensure that we are being authentic and effectively using integrity and service as our most powerful character trait.

When I started Incredible One Enterprises, I developed a lot of "Incredible-isms" to illustrate the steps I believe are necessary to operate an Incredible life. One of those steps/principles, is the concept I aptly titled 'Inspect the Incredible' or completing that all important self-assessment. I can't remember which rap group and song says "check yourself before you wreck yourself," but that is exactly what comes to mind when I think of Michael Jackson's song and my concept of Inspecting the Incredible.

It is so important to take a look at your life and make sure that who you are is who you want to be and who others see you as is who you want to be seen as. Now, I am not suggesting that you allow others opinions of you to carry too much weight, but I do believe that you can tell a tree (a pillar of society that offers nourishment and strength) by the fruit it bears and of course you alredy know that if you are going to bear fruit, I think it should be passion fruit!

So how often do I complete this "Inspect the Incredible" step, Darnyelle? The simple answer is as often as you feel the need but minimally, I believe that each quarter or as the seasons change, we need to begin by inspecting ourselves. Each season in our life brings new challenges and rewards and having the personal stability to weather the seasons is essential to the Incredible You.

What do I do when I am "Inspecting the Incredible," Darnyelle? To borrow/rearrange a line from a Smokey Robinson hit, "Tracks of My Tears," "Take a good look at your face but if your smile is out of place, look closer and start to trace what needs to change in order for that frown to become a smile again. I think that being honest with yourself and asking yourself those tough questions like, "what do I hear about me from other people?, who do I think that I am? Am I successful at creating a brand that speaks to who I believe God created me to be?, etc. is a good place to start. I would also like to point out getting my 2nd book, The Incredible You can help as I included a detailed, thought provoking self-assessment in the book and my readers are telling me that it was just what they needed to finally define and unleash the Incredible inside.

There is so much more to Inspecting the Incredible....determining if your life bears fruit is so essential and of course, you've got to ask yourself if you are fertilizer or weed killer....adding or subtracting value....keeping relationships with people who are where you want to be and pulling you up versus bringing you down....keeping a positive attitude...speaking life affirming words over yourself and others....I could go on and on....

I think you get my point.

Grab a mirror and get started. We will all be glad that you did.

Be Incredible,
Darnyelle

Fruit fit to Enjoy

"You can't enjoy the fruit, if you don't nourish it from the root. Feed your mind with empowering thoughts, words and actions." ~Darnyelle A. Jervey

I am so excited for today's post.....At bible study yesterday, my pastor said something profound....He said, when you want fruit, where in the supermarket do you go? You go to the produce department right? Of course! Produce is the root word for production or....taking ACTION to being able to enjoy the fruit of your life. Darnyelle translation...Do the Incredible!!!! Now, you know I'm not talking about just any fruit, I am talking about passion fruit....

On a previous post, I described passion fruit...it's juicy, its power-packed and full of vitamins and minerals to aid the body in digestion and offer energy that will empower your body to run a marathon! When you bear Passion fruit, watch your life change and your destiny be manifested in your life. What you send into the lives of others, most assuredly comes back into your own....

What he said wasn't that profound, it was the manifestation of what he said. As my mind began to pontificate over his words, I got elated in my spirit...work...we must work to build the fruit of our lives. Our minds must be filled with empowerment...but we have to put it there...Life is full of choices and choosing to nourish ourselves and others is what will make a significant difference in our lives and the lives of others.

It's not going to always be easy to bear fruit but it will always be worth it. I have always said if you don't have anything empowering to say, don't say anything at all because saying nothing can often be an illustration of the juicest passion fruit the world has ever tasted.

So, how do you nourish the fruit?

1. Make a non negotiable decision that being a fruit bearer is a part of your job description.

2. Input determines output. What are you putting into your produce stand? Are you watching garbage on television, listening to crap on the radio, reading trashy novels? If you don't put good stuff in, good stuff will not come out.

3. Attract the Incredible. Of course I can't leave this one out. Fruit bearers attract fruit bearers. When you look at your circle of influence, do you see production in their lives? If not, run forest run.

4. Commit to producing fruit. Challenges will come but those who bear fruit will always prevail by doing it anyway. It may not always be easy but it will always be worth it.

Have an Incredible Walk it Out Wednesday.

Be Incredible,
Darnyelle

The Most Powerful Tool in YOUR World

Everybody possesses one. Everybody uses this tool each day...some of us build things, others of us tear things down...some of us even let it lay dormant what do you do...do you use your constructively...or do you tear down walls and people with your tool.

If you haven't guessed it by now, I am talking about your tongue. After all, "it is the most powerful tool you will ever possess and use...use it properly and you can fix anything." When I realized the power that lied in my tongue and how by simply changing the way I spoke about my situations, problems, concerns, etc, I could shift and change things and prevent ill thoughts from ruining my day....so many things changed. Incredible things started to happen.

I remember back in the day when I had a filthy mouth and as a young lady, my speech was not reflective of the way I wished that people would treat me. Almost like turning on the light, I realized that I only had a potty mouth in certain circumstances. Well, I figured that if I could control it sometimes, I could control it at all times and from then on I began to act and speak like the young lady that I wanted to be considered as. By switching the context in which I used my tool, I noticed so many things changing in and around me. I naturally got more respect from my co-workers and my friends started to take me seriously. I started to take me seriously. When I noticed the power with which I spoke and how people listened to what I had to say because I had a valuable contribution to any meeting or conversation, it boosted my confidence and showed me of the power that had been laying dormant all because I didn't apply my tool correctly to fix and change the mindsets of others, including myself.

The tongue is a powerful tool. What do you fix with yours? It's been said that we need to stop telling God our problems and start telling our problems about God...that's a great way to use your tool, isn't it? The key here is to stop talking about things you cannot change and to focus your tongue, time and attention on things that you can....Change what you speak and watch what you seek also change...I invite you to take your tool and use it to fix something or someone by offering words of edification and encouragement. I encourage you to realize that when you speak the Incredible, Incredible things will happen.

After all, if you don't have anything empowering to say, you shouldn't say anything at all.
